it's unbelievable what we've seen as we've driven through middletown and on the way up to middletown. this was an area that in the past fires, i've been up here, unfortunately, several times over the past month or so, both for the rocky fire, the -- the jerusalem fire. this is the area where people were evacuating to. that's not the case anymore. this is the place where people were fleeing from, in many cases running for their lives. one of the public information officers said it was like the oakland hills fire, more like a firestorm. this thing came through so quickly. we have video that we can show you that she shot as we were going through middletown earlier today. just house after house after house leveled. i mean, nothing left. we saw an apartment complex leveled. nothing left. it is -- it's just unbelievable what you are seeing. it doesn't look real. keep in mind that this is -- this is a town. this is not a wildland area, though it butts up to wildland area. this is kind of the big city, the big town for this area. and blocks of it are gone. i talked to one gentleman whose home

middletown area, showers showing up. if you are a firefighter, they will be the first ones to tell you, you get humidity, a few drops, it is a game changer. even though it is 90% not contained they will get containment. we had 4, 5 days of 100 plus degree temperatures and a four year drought. now we are changing the climate around the fire. look at the current numbers. pretty mild. happy about this. this time of year this is an unusual pattern. we are getting a break. typically i would be looking at 90s. moistures in the single digits. 20 degrees cooler in santa rosa. yesterday it cooled off quite a bit. here is the low to the north of us. the low that will be there today, tomorrow, wednesday. and continues to bring moisture into the area. here is tomorrow morning. showers here. there is no showers tuesday morning. watch to the north. moisture increases. southwest winds. not too gusty tuesday. southwest 5-10. firefighters are all over this. watch what happens on wednesday. wednesday morning. boom. that is the real deal.

middletown high school was spared. it is now being used as a staging area for the more than 100 pg&e crews being -- trying to connect power to this town. there are signs of life out here. we have seen some encouraging signs of animals robing the neighborhood including these two goats we saw alive and well in the middle of a completely charred field near the casino. so it is encouraging to see some of the animals survived, even if their homes did not. back out here live, even though people are not encouraged to come back and check on their property, i checked briefly with the man who owns this repair shop, he says he does have fire insurance but at this point he just needs to come back to take pictures to figure out what kind of claim he has and whether that insurance will help him or not. he is one of the few -- he is one of the few people we have seen come back to assess the damage in town and around town. that is one of the things fire crews will be focusing on today. >> it really does look and feel like a ghost town
